On September 27, House members Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) sent a letter to the Secretaries of State and Defense Mike Pompeo and Mark Esper about the recent increase in U.S. security assistance to Azerbaijan, the Armenian advocacy groups reported.

The letter came more than two months after Focus on Karabakh revealed that in 2018-19 the Trump Administration requested in excess of $102 million in security assistance to Azerbaijan.

The three members of Congress call for an immediate halt to Azerbaijan aid and demand a detailed report on the aid allocated so far. They also noted “reports” that “Azerbaijan’s Border Guard and other U.S.-assisted military units have taken part in hostilities against Armenian forces.” U.S. law prohibits U.S. aid to Azerbaijan from being used for “offensive purposes” against Armenia.
