In its weekly TV program, the NKR Defense Ministry released previously unpublished details about the November 2014 operation to return remains of an Armenian army helicopter crew shot down during a training flight.

The widely covered incident five years ago marked an escalation in the mostly low-intensity, tit-fot-tat attrition warfare between Armenian and Azerbaijan forces. The helicopter crashed between the two sides’ trench lines and the Azerbaijani command refused Armenian requests to remove the pilots’ remains, as is customary under the rules of war.

With talks failing, five Armenian servicemen from Defense Army’s special forces unit crossed into the mined terrain overnight to salvage the pilots’ remains. Snipers from the same unit laid down suppressive fire. The program includes interviews with the operation’s direct participants and then army commander Gen. Movses Hakobyan.
