Travel the world researching all things Armenia and Armenian with the Tufenkian Travel Scholarship! 

The USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies is excited to announce that the Tufenkian Travel Scholarship is now OPEN for applications. The scholarship will support student activities and research in contemporary Armenian Studies broadly defined. Research areas include, but are not limited to, language, cultural studies, literature, the arts, economics, anthropology, sociology, history, regional studies, environmental science, and political science.

Each student funded by the program will receive a stipend that can be used to advance their research, including covering the cost of travel to access resources not available at their home institution. The stipend must be used to conduct research related to Armenia or Armenian Studies. This can include fieldwork and interviews; conference, workshop and/or course participation; visits to archives and special library collections; internships at relevant institutions; implementation of surveys and other data collection; and other research-related activities.

Deadline

All applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on December 1, 2023.

Award

The grant award will be anywhere between $1500 and $3000 based on the student’s research plan and proposed budget. Funds are typically paid as a one-time sum.

Eligibility

Full-time enrolled undergraduate students at USC. Students must be in good academic standing and be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of their academic program. Selection of a final candidate will be made after an in-person interview.

To Apply

Submit the online application and letter of reference by 11:59 p.m. on December 1, 2023. The application must include:

  • A 400-500 word project description
  • A detailed budget statement
  • A current curriculum vitae or resume
  • USC Completed Course Summary, available on OASIS through the myUSC portal
  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty member. Note: the letter of recommendation should be emailed by the faculty member to armenian@usc.edu and include the name and last name of the applicant 

The project description should include the project’s objective, the research plan and/or methods for achieving this objective (including a schedule or itinerary, if applicable), and the overall rationale for the research project.

The budget statement should detail the project’s travel and research costs and list the sources used to determine those costs. The Tufenkian Travel Scholarship funds may not be used to purchase materials. Research must be concluded by December 2024.
