In a newly-published paper for the Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies, the institute’s senior fellow Dr. Dahlia Scheindlin compared the Israeli-Palestinian and Armenian-Azerbaijani conflicts, and looked at how unresolved conflicts impact democratic institutions and prospects for democratic reform.

Schneidlin argues that such “protracted conflicts are increasingly incompatible with democratic norms, even when such norms appear strong on the surface,” as in Israel. In an op-ed about Israeli prime minister’s visit to Azerbaijan, Schneidlin also argued that by reaching out to autocrats like Ilham Aliyev, Benjamin Netanyahu “degrades Israel’s democratic culture.”
